We have red-skinned potatoes, Yukon Gold potatoes, & white Kennebec potatoes. Also in production are the stringless green beans, second crop of yellow crookneck squash and zucchinis, globe eggplant and sweet bell and paprika peppers. We also have lovely field-grown ripe tomatoes ready from now until frost .
Ready in October will be the winter squashes ( butternuts, delicatas, sweet dumplings, acorn and spaghetti squashes) and several varieties of pie and Jack O'Lantern pumpkins.
Bronze scuppernong grapes and the persimmons are ripening, a Japanese variety that does not need cold weather to sweeten. We have recipes for using persimmons at the Old Salem Cobblestone market, on Saturday mornings, 9 AM to noon, along with freshly picked persimmons (and grapes) and samples of our Persimmon Fruit Bars recipe, adapted from an old English pudding recipe.
For September and October 2017:
You can find us at the Old Salem (Winston-Salem, NC) Cobblestone Farmers Market on Saturday mornings between 9-12, or call for orders 336-416-3272 with either pickup at the farm or a designated location.
Because we are dealing with extensive tornado damage to the land and several of our buildings, we ask that you do not come to the farm without prior arrangement.
